Extra luscious hunties like have been getting alot of attention lately, but for Lizzo to be drippin’ on the cover of Vogue‘s September issue? We big girls are here to stay.
Whether or not you’re a fan of this rapper/songstress/model/activist/vixen, there’s no ignoring the Black lightning that is Lizzo. At 32-year-old she grace the cover of Vogue, and that is extra, extra large. Miz Liz in classic red lipstick, nails, and a soft and sexy red gown — is looking Good As Hell. After all this drip, if you still can’t see why this cover is fire, let’s Lizzo break it down.
“I am the first big black woman on the cover of @voguemagazine. The first black anything feels overdue. But our time has come,” she wrote alongside the cover on Instagram. “To all my black girls, if someone like you hasn’t done it yet— BE THE FIRST.”
It is very rare to have Blacks on the cover of large global fashion magazines like Vogue. But it’s virtually impossible to see plus-size and fat women on the cover of any magazines. And now there’s one as legendary as Vogue has finally celebrated a beautiful, fat and Black woman onto its cover. I can’t lie, it feels really nice. Because Black girls and fat girls individually are worthy enough to be defined as exceptionally beautiful. Lizzo sums it up nicely: “Being fat is normal.“
If there’s any magazine cover that you want to use to conquer exclusion strongholds in the fashion industry, it’s Vogue. Its September cover is probably the most highly anticipated publishing event of the year. The fashion industry has deceived us into thinking that fat women simply do not belong in it. Well no more. Lizzo’s appearance on this cover has torn the veil.
Fat women are and have always been capable of being fashion and beauty icons. I’m not the only fat girl who’s heart jumped the first time I saw this cover. We all look good as hell. And that is why Lizzo is fire personified.
