Alexis Eke, the Toronto-based artist, creates Renaissance-esque pieces inspired by her personal relationship with God. Her focus is to increase the representation of black women in design. One can also assume that she wants to see more black women traditionally defined in renaissance era fashion.
Some may say their work is reminiscent of the labors of Matisse and Marc Chagall but way more luscious and defined ( loosely defined like L’Asie and vivacious colors like Paris Through the Window.) Their pieces are visual symphonies of pattern, texture, color and movement. Captivating onlookers with their fusion of whimsical and pragmatic imagery, their work is bold and triumphant and commemorative.
